Probably read the title asking what the hell do you mean by “october illusion”? Well this is a phenomenom that probably most of you guys have experienced once in your lifetime.
The October Illusion is the romanticization of autumn all year. During all year you’re preparing for a season that you are romanticizing all year by creating your cool moodboards on Pinterest, saving cool autumn routines that you see on tiktok, saving recipes that you know damn well that you don’t have the time to do because you will be saturated with work from high school/college or making a watchlist/readlist of all the books, series and movies that you want to watch when fall comes around.
That, ladies & gentleman, is the October Illusion. You are all year awaiting the moment where you will do all those things when, in reality, you know pretty well that, in fall, you will be doomscrooling on your bed or studying for the november finals.
Don’t get me wrong, I also fall for this phenomenom each year, and I love to prepare myself for a season with things I won’t probably do. But we have to be honest with ourselves, we are not going to cook the 200 recipes that we
saved because we don’t have enough time to do it, we are not going to watch the 5-season show that we saved because it is, what we consider, THE autumn show, we are not going to follow this complex routines because nobody can function properly in the morning to be doing a 1 hour routine each day.
But what I want to say with this is that it is okay to romanticize autumn, in the end we all do it, but if u wanna do autumn stuff you must know that you cannot do everything you prepared because nobody has the time to do everything we would love to do because we have lots of obligations. Just organize some stuff to do, instead of 20 shows to watch, maybe shorten it to 2-4; instead of 200 recipes to do, shorten it to 10-20 to do; instead of impossible routines, do a routine that is honest to what you do.
In the end, there is nothing we can do to stop romanticizing fall, because is THE season and that won’t change a bit. And, is always fun to prepare things and think of what we will do in fall. I’ll always want to have the same free time on fall that we have on the summer.
Hope you have an incredible day my loves, remember that you are beautiful!
